I was on orthotricyclen for over ten years and always had thick, healthy hair. I got off it last year and then about 5 months after I started spironolactone (for acne) my derm put me back on the pill. My skin cleared up almost immediately, but then my hair started shedding at a much faster than normal rate. (I'm also in the process of growing my hair out. It was very short and is now shoulder length, and long strands fall out everywhere. When I wash my hair I have strands all over my hands and then all during the day I find them on my clothing, etc). I am getting nervous because now the very top of my scalp feels a little sore. My hairdresser noticed that my hair seems much thinner on top, but she didn't notice any kind of scalp problem (no sores, no dryness or fungal infection, etc).
I read that the pill can cause hair loss, and this rapid shedding seems to correspond with when I started taking the pill again, so about a month ago I stopped taking it. The shedding hasn't stopped, and now I'm reading that hair loss can occur after stopping the pill! Is it just going to keep falling out till I noticeable have bald spots? Is it reversable?
Anyone with any info on this, please help!
