How much time before pill is effective?

by gem9, Jul 24, 2009 04:13PM
After having sex I realised that the condom had broken, I am taking the contraceptive pill (combination Mercilon) but had only restarted taking it 5hours before having sex after taking my monthly break. Will my pill still be effective or should i take some emergency comtraception?

Most pills are not effective until you have been taking them for 7 full days.   Its confusing that you said you had been taking Mercilon, but "restarted".

How long were you off?

I never went off the pill, I just took the break for my period. So I had just restarted taking the pill after finishing my period.

you should be fine. the pill doesn't stop working during your period week.
how long have you been on the pill in total? like a few years?
