Implanan?

I used the depo once... one shot made me gain weight, feel sick and tired, have mood swings, hot flashes, and bleed for over 8 months! That was my birth control! I will never do that again! The shot is only supposed to be effective for 3 months. I had to see a doctor who had to put me on the pill to FIX my messed up hormones from the shot.  I want something that is removable after I have my baby. (This will be around 50 more days) I am looking for some immediate birth control since I am a college student, newly wed, and working mother-to-be…  I plan to breastfeed; I don’t want any birth control that will harm my baby. I am hoping that I will not have another horror story from birth control… Has anyone used Implanon? How did it work for you? I want real stories, not to read the advertisement from the implanon brochures. They never let you know just how terrible the side effects can be. I would know. The depo shot was the most disgusting example of the way advertisement can put icing on top of the terrible side effects.

Hi, strangely I found this looking for something else.

I have just had my implanon implant removed, after having it for two years. I am 28, a P.H.D student and very healthy usually. I have developed a breast lump and polycystic ovary symptoms ( i know you are born with this syndrome, which I wasn't, but the symptoms can be mimiced by Implanon).

After some research, I now find that too many people have reported these problems after using Implanon. I find this very very worrying myself-- no-one warned me about these potential problems at all before I developed them. And yet, after developing these symptoms I am told that it isn't that uncommon from Implanon.

Certainly, in England, doctors seem unaware of the real effects of Implanon, as it is relatively new here.Try putting 'implanon breast lump' into google and you will find plenty of horror stories, usually from America, where it has been around longer.

I only mention this stuff to you, not to necessarily put you off, but simply because these are things that I have developed, and that I, and my American O.B.G.Y.N, put down to the use of Implanon.

Thank you for sharing. That's exactly what I am scared of... Was it constant bleeding or just heavier bleeding when you had your regular cycle?

Thank you ladies. I will look into both of these options a little more. Still want to hear a little more about personal experiences with the Implanon though. (I'm really glad to hear good news about it so far.)

Hi, implanon can be used for women who breastfeed but there is a certain time you have to wait after the baby is born before you get it put in....cant remember tho, i think its something like a month, but i could be wrong.

Honestly, implanon isnt for everybody, but the only way to find out is if you actually try it. Ive had it in since september last year and its been brilliant. i have had small moments of weepiness that i cant explain and pregnancy symptoms, although very mild. i dont get periods...ive only had a couple of brown spots every now and then. i dont think its making me put on weight but i think its holding my weight, i cant seem to get to that slim body i had after leaving school! lol

I do know that womens' periods can go either way with the implant, or they can be normal.

Now a couple of my uni friends have gotten it and it seems to be working for them pretty well.

My advice is to give a it a go, if it doesnt work then you can get it taken out and everything goes back to normal pretty much straight away. if it works its FAB!
