Is she pregnant?

Well last sunday, my girlfriend started taking desogen during her period and it stopped her period.  A few days later we had sex, and I came inside of her.  I have done this many times before when she was on other birth control pills.  Yesterday, the doc told her that it takes 30 days for desogen to take effect and she might be pregnant, we also heard that right after you period, you have the least chance to get pregnant..

She would of been taking the pill for 2-3 days when we had sex, and she takes it daily..

Is she pregnant?

Hello,
Ideally the urine for pregnancy test should be done after 1 week of the missed periods date. Most chemical tests for pregnancy look for the presence of the beta subunit of hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin in the urine. hCG can be detected in urine after implantation of zygote in the wall of the uterus formed by the union of the sperm & the ovum, which occurs six to twelve days after fertilization.
At 10 days past ovulation an average woman has an hCG measurement of right around 25 mIU.So a highly sensitive hCG test like an aimstrip test would be needed at this point of time to detect pregnancy. If it comes out negative then I would suggest your girlfriend to wait for her periods and then repeat the test after 1 week of her periods date if she misses them. You can also get a serum HCG levels test done from a gynecologist.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.

Well, Its exactly 10 days before her period is suppose to begin.  If it would be implantation bleeding, then would a pregnancy test tell us if she is pregnant or not? We took one last night and it came back negative.

She thinks she is just spotting because of her birth control pills.  She told me she "knows" her body.  We are planning on taking another test in a week.

Hello,
Although the status of pregnancy cannot be confirmed without investigations, but if your girlfriend is having spotting, it can be due to implantation bleeding or start of the periods which can be irregular for some time after changing oral contraceptives. Spotting is common after using or changing birth control pills also. So this possibility also needs to be kept in mind. Implantation bleeding is light pink or brownish blood which happens at the time the fertilized egg implants in the uterus i.e on average between 6 to 12 days past ovulation.

I sincerely suggest you to consult a gynecologist and get these three possibilities probed. Likewise as told earlier, a urine for pregnancy test can also be done.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how your girlfriend is doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.

Hello,
I can understand your concern. It is true that right after the periods, the chances of pregnancy are the least but these are not impossible. Also your doctor is right in saying that it can take atleast 30 days for the oral contraceptive to take effect. When oral contraceptives are started or changed from one form or brand to another then the body takes time to adjust to the hormonal changes and so extra form of birth control measures like a condom are required when having unprotected intercourse.

I would suggest your girlfriend to get a urine for pregnancy test (UPT) done. For this highly sensitive UPT kits(like aimstrip test) are available in the market and which can measure levels of hCG as low as 25 mIU.The test can detect pregnancy after 7-10 days of conception. I would also suggest you to consult a gynecologist and get UPT or serum hCG levels estimated to confirm the status of pregnancy.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how your girlfriend is doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
