I've been on my period for 18 days now?

I'm still on my first injection, I got it on the first day of my period in December. The nurse told me about possible side effects and such, but the only one I've gotten is spotting, which was only a little annoying. Now I've been bleeding for eighteen days, I thought it was coming to an end multiple times but then continued, but despite the bleeding it is bearable because the cramping isn't too bad. But I started birth control so my boyfriend could worry less about pregnancy, as condoms are used too but he has PTSD related, but this long term bleeding is kind of deterring the whole point. Does anybody have any suggestions?
