Lost IUD and Possible Pregnancy

I have a copper IUD but had an accident about a month ago. At the ER the doctor couldn't find my IUD just by looking so he had to do an x-ray. I have an appt with my gyno this week because A) I've been vomiting, had heavy cramping and am just feeling pregnant in general. B) My husband has always been able to feel the IUD when we have sex but here recently he hasn't felt it all. Does anyone know about this? I mean even if I'm not pregnant, I'm still wanting to get rid of the IUD because of all the pain it causes. But if the doc can't find it, do they have to knock me out and cut me open?
