Mirena: Yes or No?

Im 17 and looking for a birth control that won't mess up my horomones too much and will help out my overly heavy bleeding. (Seriously, its really ridiculous!) Since last year I've been checking out Mirena, the side effects, the insertion before and that it will help with my monthly horror flick. I'd like to know what other women have experienced on it, what to expect, and any other helpful information. (I'd rather now have opinions from people now) Thanks very much!!

No, don't have it done.  I wish I had not.  Yes your period stops and you don't have to remember to take it and it lasts 5 years, but the yeast infections and other side effects are not worth it...trust me.  Every time I have intercourse I have a problem, then it's abstaining until things down there are back to normal.  My husband is frustrated, I am frustrated and trust me, I am not alone.  Do your self a favour and read this:

Some women have no side effects, but where I live Mirena is very expensive and thats okay if it lasts 5 yrs, but if you have side effects and take it out early, it was a lot of money spent for nothing.

Go for it. I only had it 11 months but it was great! I wish I could still be on it!

I had my mirena in for 17 months and I also loved it. The only reason I took it out is because we're trying again. The IUD is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I got pregnant on the depo shot and on pills. I would say go for it!

I hated being on the pill. I can't remember what generic pill they had me on, but I would forget especially around my exam time and over the summer and it messed with my emotions and such sooo badly! Thank you for input!!

I had my IUD inserted in June of 2007 after having my son. I use to have such horrible periods when I was younger that they put me on Yazmin, to control the bleeding, but I hated to have to take a pill everyday as sometimes I would forget. After I had my IUD inserted I did bleed for the first 2 months like a normal period for me and then after the 3rd month I didn't bleed or get the horrible cramps that I use to get, they were so bad all of the time that I could barely get out of bed. I absolutely LOVED my Mirena, and after this little guy is born I will go back on it, it's just so much easier to not have to worry about if you took your pill. Hope this helps =0)
