Mirena without any previous pregnancies

I've looked into Mirena myself, but my younger sister's doctor surprised her by suggesting it to her. She felt being on the pill long-term wasn't the best option (she has to be on blood thinners to begin with) so she wants her to consider Mirena. She also said it could stop her cramps (why I'm considering it on top of wanting to hold off on having another child so soon). She has never been pregnant/had a child, so is this a reasonable option? My doctor said its only for women who have had a child. I guess to it would "fit." At least that's how it was explained to me.

Does anyone have the Mirena without already having a baby?

I am 27 years old and I am married but never had a baby. My husband and I decided we did not want kids for at least the next five years but didn’t want cancel out the idea all together. Friday I had Mirena inserted into me without any pain preventions and it hurt more then anything I could described. I screamed while it happened to the point the waiting room could hear me. The staff gave me no remorse or medicine to help. I regret doing this.

My friend had her first child during her junior year of high school without any birth control her mom was upset so after she had her son he is a yr. old now she tried mirena and it really don't work because she went for a check-up while on it at her ob and found out she was five mths. pregnant and her mom is not mad at her about this because she was on mirena but no not trying to be rude or anything i wouldn't consider it.

I have a period every 10 days, insane headaches, cramps like you wouldn't believe, i am always tired and very moody. I think thats all of them but I have a post, "Does anyone have Mirena." that you can look at. I am actually getting it removed January 4th. My sister had the same problems with hers. She hadn't had kids when she had it inserted either. It is different for everyone though.

Can I ask what kind of problems? I'more concerned for her than myself! She's been through enough medically.

Good to know, very helpful, is this because of the "tighter fit?"

Mirena was made for women who have already conceived but it is possible to have it without ever having a baby. There is an increased risk that it will be rejected from the body, so regular checkups are necessary for the first few months to ensure that it is staying in place.
