other side effects I'm experiencing include sharp lower abdominal pains, like poking, and constipation and gas. I've read from other forums people having the same symptoms. It only seems like to me, that these symptoms arise when I should be experiencing a period. I figure it will go away in a week like my cycle does.

i got my first shot and I am experiencing the same thing. All birth control can cause pregnancy symptoms. They are all side effects. I have been having some spotting for about 4 days. But it stopped recently and hasn't occurred for 4 days. I should be on my period now. As my last one was on the 20th, got my shot on the 3rd. I'm nauseous(after I eat), tired, headache, brst tenderness.

Honestly, I thought I would have some form of very small period my first month in because I know I had some form of lining and it says it thins it out. So I figured the rest would come out. I did 1 day of dark brown bleeding( just one wipe) the other three days of spotting were dots of bright red blood.

Oh, well guess I will just have to enjoy the month. They say symptoms like this usually get better by the end of the 3 months and your body is used to it.

I didn't get any bleeding after my last depo shot for 6 months, and my periods didn't normalize until 3 months after that.  I've heard a lot of other people have had the same problem.
