Either way you have to wait for your period to start to start your pills. You should read the package insert because it specifically states to start:
EITHER
-The first day of your period OR
-The Sunday After the first day of your period. Which means, regardless of what day of the week your period starts, you start the pill on the first Sunday that comes next.

Your doctor was very irresponsible to not give you clear directions but as I said the directions are in the package insert.
