filshie clip removal

I am 30 yrs old, a mother of 3; ages 10, 3, and 18 months.  Six weeks after the birth of my third child I had a bilateral tubal occlusion with filshie clips done.  This was April of '09.  I started having pain immediately following the surgery.  It felt like my ovaries were going to burst all the time and that my tubes were being squeezed.   I had the filshie clips removed 10 days ago and in less than 24 hours I noticed a big difference.  I think my body was trying to fight the clips.  For the last 10 months or so I have been waking up with my whole body in pain.  It got worse and worse.  It was getting to be a struggle to get out of bed every day because of the achiness.  EVERY DAY I felt like I had been hit by a bus the day before.  My legs hurt, joints ached, and just felt terrible in general.  I also run about 4 miles a day.  I thought the achiness was either from running or just getting older.  Well the day after my surgery I woke up feeling perfectly fine.  It never even crossed my mind until then that those clips were causing my body to hurt.  As I said, I am ten days post op and have not felt the slightest bit achy since.  How weird is that?  Has anyone had any similar experiences with filshie clips?  Also, the doctor had to burn my tubes when he removed the clips to prevent bleeding.  I am wondering what are the chances that my tubes will heal themselves and I could get pregnant again?

I had my tubal ligation surgery January 21st, 2016. I've been feeling the exact same way since the surgery. They didn't tell me what method they used on me, I just recently requested my operative report & I'm waiting for it in the mail. I'm just curious to know, how many clips do they use? And do you know if insurance will cover getting them removed if your body is rejecting them?

I feel the same way and I'm 8 days in. I got the clips on Feb 17th my doctors looked at me like I was crazy when I described exactly everything you just said. That's crazy I really feel as though I want these out asap but I don't know how to go about getting it done. I'm in so much pain I can't handle this also how many clips did the doctor use for you? I have 2 clips on each side.

Serious problems with the Filshie Clip (or any other medical device) can be reported to the FDA using FDA Form 3500:
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/aboutfda/reportsmanualsforms/forms/ucm163919.pdf

In the past five years, only 29 problems have been reported with the Filshie Clip, and many of those were problems with the surgical applicator, not the clip itself.  If your doctor thinks your problems are due to the Filshie Clip, ask him to submit a report.  If he or she does not submit a report (you can find out here: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfmaude/search.cfm), you can submit one yourself.

I had the clips placed on my tubes 5 Yrs ago not by choice either I had no idea my doctor was going to put them on my tubes. For 5 almost 6 yrs now I've had pain mood swings I'm always achey I hurt and get severe headaches. Well last March I collapsed on my kitchen floor while my kids watched and I was in so much pain I couldn't breathe. I was rushed to the emergency still dizzy shaky and they did an MRI only to find out I had titanium surgical clips on my tubes and other then that they said I was fine and nothing more they could do. So I continue to live with the pain fatigue headaches abnormal cycles and dizziness and severe abdominal pain daily. My insurance won't allow me to have the procedure to remove them. I'm a sitting duck and I have kids and a husband to take care of and all the effects from these clips I didn't ask for I have to live with til I have 8000 dollars to have the procedure done.

We have had women in our support group say they have been able to get insurance to cover removing the clips. However if you are experiencing PTLS and all of the horrifying symptoms then you won't get much relief until your tubes are repaired. Some insurances do cover "fertility" treatments and will cover up to $10,000 in assistance which would cover the cost of a reversal. I do hope that gives you some hope! Please join us on facebook support groups to learn all that you can. If you are going to try for a reversal then you will need as much information possible to "go against" the dr.'s beliefs. They will not admit these clips cause pain nor that PTLS is real. You will have to be ready to fight.

Do you think there is any way to get an ins co. to pay at least part of a reversal?

Filshie clips are known to cause the types of pain you ladies have endured. Here is a link to their brochure. Notice at the bottom in fine print the Adverse effects. http://www.coopersurgical.com/Documents/Filshie%20Tubal%20Ligation%20System%20Brochure.pdf

I know this pain first hand because I too endured it for over a year before footing the bill for a reversal even though I told my dr. from the day I woke up from surgery I was having electrifying pains shooting from my abdomen to my knees...she passed me off.

I'm so sorry you ladies have gone through this or possibly still are. We have support groups on facebook for PTLS (Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome) which entails many other symptoms I went through as well (Hair falling out, asthma worsening, acne worsening, constant back pain, flooding menstrual cycles etc. You can find the full list by googling PTLS if you think this may be something you are suffering from as well.) However I was successful in ridding myself of the pain by having a reversal. My reason for doing a full reversal even though I am done having children was to restore my body to what it was before and regain the life I had prior to tubal ligation. It worked too! I live PTLS free now.

If you are wanting to only get the clips removed but not have your tubes opened then you may be able to get a general surgeon to do it, however more than likely you will want to go with someone more experienced in this field such as a reversal dr. They can leave you tubes closed but just remove the clips (insurances can approve this many times if you can get a dr. to admit this is what is causing you pain) However if you think you are experiencing PTLS then a full reversal would be your best shot at getting your body and life back to what it was prior to tubal ligation. I'm not a dr. I can't advise this is true for every woman but only from my own personal experience as well as what I have learned by talking to so many other women that have gone through the same thing. If you would like to read my full story you can visit my blog (no I do not get paid). It has many helpful links on PTLS as well as the links to our support/info groups. Good luck and bless you on your journey to healing!! http://****.blogspot.com/p/twitter.html

Do these clips have to be removed by a tubal reversal center or can a regular surgeon preform this procedure?

My rib and back has been causing me severe pain for 3yrs as well as a protruded left ribcage and doctors can find nothing. I've had a c-section 12yrs ago, 9 miscarriages to follow without explanation and my gallbladder was removed about 7yrs ago( also had no stones ) I just found out a clip is on my pelvic and I was never told. I am desperate to have my life back and can't find a dr to help ... would you mind sharing the name and location of the dr that helped you ?

I am having so many of the same issues I have phantom pains in my lower back both ovary areas my rigs hurt so bad I cant breath and at the drop of a dime they just stop (thats how fast they start as well ) I have had so many doctors tell me Im making all of this up. After the first year of really complianing about the pains (of course still being sent away ) they decided to remove my gallbladder and told me that the pains should stop even though they also told me that I had nowhere near normal gallbladder symptoms. I dont think its right that the companys should be able to get away with SO MANY women in pain and misery and the doctors are just making us seem like we are crazy. I have 2 children and a wonderful husband that deserves to have their mother/wife back , the way that I used to be (very energetic and happy and playful) If you find out how or where to persue this please let me know

i am 33 i have a 11, 10, 2 year old children and a 9 month old baby i had a tubal done in august 2010 and just find out it was done with filshie clips but the tricky part is i got pregnant a viable pregnancy after round eight months of the tubal. After the birth of my last baby i n 2012 i had a tubal where my ends were cauterized but the dr that performed this tubal says my clip was still on left tube but there was no clip on my right tube. Since my last tubal i have had two periods in one month on n off heavy bleeding very bad hemroid problems n abdominal pain n uncomfortable during intercourse could this b the missing clip causing my problem or normal symptoms of having two tubals so close together where culd the clip b or was it ever there. Wat makes me so mad is i asked the dr after my first tubal was he goin to give me birth control before leaving hospital or at my six seek check up he laughed like i was stupid told me i didnt need n no i just had a tubal. Okay well i did need it or my fourth child wuldnt have joined our family. Lol

Finally, someone who is calling for honesty and accountability! Why aren't these doctors and the manufacturers being sued for all they're worth? I can't find any forum online that would help with this. Five years ago I had my tubes tied after having three boys. I did my research and took the required classes, and I too thought I was only having my tubes tied/cut. FOUR YEARS of headaches, abdominal pain, bloating, muscle and joint pain, and BLOOD CLOTS after exercising, and I was at my wits end, wondering what was wrong with me. My husband had the inspiration that it had to do with my tubes being tied. I pulled the surgical report and found out that I had Filshie clips put in without my consent! I realized that every time I went for a long run or did plyometric-type exercise, these metal clips would scrape my insides and clots would eventually form. The first one went to my lung, the second one somewhere in my abdomen. I'M STILL PAYING for the hospital stay!! Last May (2011) I had the clips removed and my tubes restored. I am healthy! I am pain free! No more headaches, no more abdominal pain! I am running, jumping, LIVING! My three boys were nearly rendered motherless due to these monstrosities. We cannot let this slide!! Does ANYONE know who to contact, to make a difference?!! I just can't let this go. I can't let other women suffer like I did. It's so pointless!!

I just wanted to update everyone on my success story since  having the clips removed and my tubes restored. We had a beautiful baby girl a year later (Feb 2013), and I'm still healthy as can be. I haven't thought about this event in a while, but I still wish there was something that could be done to pull them from the market. No woman should have to suffer what I did or what any of these women have in this forum. Does anyone know how to report these occurrences to the FDA without the physician? No doctor is going to admit that these clips are dangerous. But something needs to be done.

I gave birth to twins last year, and decided not to have any more kids. So I asked about the options to protect myself. My doc said she would take care of it. I signed the release, and later found out at my post op that she decided to use felshie clips..nothing was ever explained to me about this prior. But I came home four days later, and the pain hit right away. Increasingly getting worse everyday. My back feels broken, swelling in my entire ovarian area. Headaches, nauseous, irregular bleeding which I have never dealt with. And two Weeks ago I went to my doc, they are sending me to ultra sound on wed, and I pray that everything turns out in a positive manner. Otherwise I'm going to see what can be done about removal asap... I have twins for goodness sake, I need to be able to keep up with them, and as of now, I just can't!!! Ladies we need a good honest doctor who is willing to make this right...

thank all of you so much for this info, I am a 34 yr old with three children, I had to have a emergency c-section with my son in 2007 we had already planned to have my tubes tied after the birth of our son, but since they had me open already the decided to tie them them I thought my tubes would be cut and burned never knew anything about a filshie clamp never heard of it, I haven't been 100% since the birth of my son I'm in constant pain don't wanna do anything with my kids because my body hurt so bad the doctor just looks @me like I'm insane but I realize I'm not because so many of you have the same symptoms I have. Last year I got really sick and it turned out to be double  pneumonia but couldn't rule out lung cancer it turned out to be sarcoidoses but I don't believe that's what has me feeling so outta wack. Too much pain and too many false pregnancy symptoms, I guess I have to fight this because my ob nor my primary doctors are willing to deal with it and that saddens me I feel like my body is at war with itself I just wanna be pain free! Do any of you know of a doctor in Rochester NY who deals with this? Thanx

OMG!! I've been going through exactly the same but was told I had IBS for 4 yrs then when they realised I didn't they informed me that I might have endometriosys!! my response to this was would I have not known theis before I had my 4 children?? I was sent for blood tests scans ultra sounds and then finally a laproscopic investigation. I asked the specialist to remove the clips as I had this over whelming feeling that this was the cause.
I had the removal done on the 9th June this year and have had no abdominal pains aches or cramps since. I sleep better and I have my appetite back to normal and best of all I no longer look 6 months pregnant due to bloatedness.
I do have the same question about pregnancy though.
