mini pill for BC

My 6 week check up is in 9 days and I'm thinking of getting on micronor or the "mini pill" because I'm EBF'ing my daughter, I've read some things online about it causing terrible mood swings and breakthrough bleeding, and it not being as effective? I have the option of an IUD, which I don't want, this pill, depo, or OTC BC options like condoms, etc. The pill is what I'm used to and honestly I'd rather have a pill, but I'm scared this pill is going to cause terrible symptoms, has anyone been on it? I've also read from a few BF'ing moms that it DID cause a decrease in supply although it shouldn't. I just need some experienced opinions!

I'm the same!! I don't want a foreign object in my body for that long, and the thought of it moving, even if rare, scares me! I wish I was pregnant for no worries of getting pregnant too, haha!! That was nice!

Thanks KTOWNE my doc says its like a pap smear I think it'll be worse, she laughed & said after childbirth nothing can be worse which is true in a sense but with that we have no choice haha!
She did admit to the spotting but when you start the pill you spot i don't mind if it eventually stops.
Think might start with the pill don't like the thought of a "foreign body" permanently inside me & like you heard it can move & perforate the womb?? But yes everyone reacts differently.

I asked my SIL ALL these questions when I was considering it, haha. She said it stings a little going in, not coming out. She didn't feel the strings while sex, and neither could her husband, she never settled down bleeding (she got it out for this reason) after 3 weeks, but a couple other friends said it took about 3-4 weeks for it to settle down, I'm sure it's different for everyone though.

Hi ladies I had my 6wk check yesterday & deciding to get IUD mirena fitted (first time). Like KTOWNE I prefer the combined pill (heard can get pregnant on the mini but understand your bfeedng)
IUD has advantages to the pill as our family is now complete, won't forget to take pill & its a long term BC (last for 5yrs) the copper IUD (paraguard) has no hormones & my doc says its more high risk.
I want to know does it hurt putting in & out?
Heard the strings are a pain & wonder if OH's can feel it whilst BD?
Does the bleeding/spotting settle after a while?
I have a pack of pills to start in case I change my mind lol
Thanks!

I know, so I'm afraid I'm going to make a spur of the moment decision and regret it, haha! I have 8 days to decide so I need to choose! I'm leaning more towards the pills though.

I'm not too sure about the US, but I know I have to have a prescription from my dr to buy it at the pharmacy and then I bring it to my dr for him to insert. I am sure you could get either or.

I have not read anything bad about paraguard I also asked a few people that have it and my doctor said that when it moves is because its not placed right he did an ultrasound to make sure its in the right place and he has never had ANYONE get pregnant that he has put one in I can sneeze and get pregnant so I need to be covered 3 is plenty for us right now

If the IUD was to move and start to grow into you, you would feel it. There are strings attached to the IUD for you to be able to check yourself. Your dr will also check during your yearly physical. And.... If it were to move out of place you will feel it. It will cause a serious abdominal pain. Don't get me wrong, it can happen, but with the amount of IUDs used in the US and Canada, I think it is pretty rare.

If you check your strings regularly and don't have stomach pains, it should be good to go.

The only thing that worries me with IUD's is them growing into you, I know that sounds crazy but it creeps me out. i've heard a higher failure rate with the BCP's, but I've only heard negatives about IUD's so I'm scared to get one!

Here's my past with all BC;

The pill - I've used every kind I'm sure!!!! My periods wouldn't stay regular, that's why I used so many. I also conceived Keenan while on the pill.

Depo - I bled for 2 of the 3 months in between the shots.

Condoms - I HATE them and I conceived Jake while using condoms

IUD (Mirena) - used it for 2 years and never had an issue. No mood swings, no weight gain, no period, just spotting every few months and most importantly no pregnancies. I also love that it is good for 5 years.

I have my prescription for mirena so my dr can put it in at my next appointment.

I used the mini pill. And I was fine emotionally but it did dry my milk supply up quite a bit......I also conceived while taking this pill faithfully. After I stopped BFing my son they kept me on it because BC pills trigger my migraines. Well I'm due in may so it def has a higher failure rate. Even if hubby pulls out. (Which was our case).  I have also had the mirena iud and it was great I never had a period and wasn't moody. My only issue is I gained 60 lbs in the 5 yrs I was on it. Even with diet & exercise I couldn't shed it until it was removed. Depo shot made me extremely moody and cranky and had zero sex drive and when we did my personal 'lubrication' didnt work (a side effect. I am getting my tubes tied because I have now 3 different BC failures lol. We have 1 planned child lol.
