Clotting disorder - Heterozygous Prothrombin Factor II (G20210)

I was recently diagnosed with this clotting disorder after a PE was discovered in my right lung.  I am now on Cumadin (coumadin) and still figuring out all the ins and outs of this diagnosis.  I'd love to hear from you if you have a similar or the same sort of disorder.

Hi!
Yes clotting disorders which cause a hypercoaguable stage or stage with increased clot formation can result in pulmonary embolisms. Deficiencies of certain proteins, increased homocystine, factor VIII and/or fibrin in blood, abnormal fibrinolytic system are some examples of hypercoaguable clotting disorders which have a genetic origin. On the other hand these clotting disorders can be acquired in certain disease states like cancer, HIV/AIDS, obesity, antiphospolipid syndrome, nephritic syndrome, heart disease, polycythemia vera, and IBS—to name a few. Certain medications, prolonged air travel and bed rest can also be the cause. Hence if you have been diagnosed with a clotting disorder, it is important to find the cause. Please discuss with your treating doctor.
Take care!
