What is the cause for severely enlarged red blood cells?
Avatar_dr_f_tn
Hello,
Enlarged blood cells are called macrocytes and the condition is called macrocytosis. Common causes of macrocytosis include Vitamin B-12 deficiency, Folate deficiency, Liver disease, Alcoholism, A side effect of certain medications, such as chemotherapy drugs and Increased red blood cell production by the bone marrow (regeneration) to correct anemia.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
