low RBC high Ferratin

Due to numerous Blood Transfusions while treating AML, I have developed hematomachrosis.  My ferratin level has decreased from over 1000 to 536 with phlebotomy.  The frequent phlebotomies has caused RBC to become low.  Today, RBC was 3.89.  Last month it was 3.62 so it is slowly returning to normal.  MCV was 105, MCH was 35.1MO% was 2.2.  All others were in normal range. I'm experience fatigue, headaches and shortness of breath.  Those symptoms are improving but it has been 9 weeks since my last phlebotomy.  Is it normal for my RBC to take this long returning to normal?  My oncologist told me today that I had plenty of blood????????  Should I report these labs to my PCP?

Hi!
The RBCs have a life cycle of about 120 days, and that’s how long it will take to regenerate the lost RBCs. Meanwhile drink plenty of fluids, eat healthy, and try and exercise (say light walk) as much as you can comfortably do without exerting. Talk to your doctor as well for any vitamin supplements that may help. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
