Stem Cells

It seems that it is only recently that ''stem cells'' were found
to be present in whole blood.
1.  Just curious how that was determined.
2.  Is the harvest concentrated somehow when you are
     wanting just the stem cells?
3.  It seems the final product for stem cells would
be rather viscous.  How is that product infused?

Thanks...

Hi I had a stem cell transplant.

To collect the cells the donor is given a medication called Nupegon (stimulate stem cell production in bone marrow enough that they "spill" over into whole blood)

After enough stem cells are detectable in whole blood the donor is hooked up to a dialysis type machine where the blood passes through and the stem cells are seperated and collected.

They are then mixed in with preservative and washed and frozen for infusion later on.
