I am familiar with bpd from people I know or have known in person who have it. I've known from people here that in addition to medication and talk therapy that a form of behavioral therapy called dbt therapy is helpful as well though I am not personally familar with it but it does appear beneficial for people with bpd.
I can totally understand what you're going though. When my psychologist told me that I met most of the DSM criteria for BPD I was really surprised because I had never known anyone with this diagnoses before even though I'd been in a psychiatric hospital more than once. No retreats - only hospitalization and only your psychiatrist can recamend or admit you for that. Despite meds and talk therapy I still struggle w/ the disease, but it has lessened.
