My dads mother was at best munipulative

My dad had a mother who was very neglectfull when he was a child. He smoked in his house at the age of 12 and neither of his parents cared... He dropped out of school at 141/2 and mother/father did not care she would sit with her husband and watch him drink beer all nite. His father died when he was 17 and his mother remaried less then a six months later to a man who very openly hated her son my dad, repeatedly humiliated my dad in front of people. My grandmother would help my dad out financially and tell the whole family. He and my mother have been married for 33 years and up till the last 7 years has been fine. He has started drinking and acuses my mother of cheating which she would never do.... Can his on going issue with his mother be a big part of the issue?

At a minimum there is a lot of dysfunctional people involved in this whole situation. Pyschological evaluation and subsequent counseling seem appropriate.
