I've known several people diagnosed with bpd and one thing that does appear to be an issue is setting emotional boundaries, that is defining one's losses or gains not through oneself but through the relationships one has. That can be one issue but bpd is more complex than that. Medication is neccessary but it doesn't treat everything so dbt therapy can be helpful as well.
