Support Groups

I live with BPD and have been trying to find a support group so that I could meet other people with this disorder and discuss issues we have in common.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any locally that aren't internet based.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Are there no support groups for people with BPD that aren't internet based?

Can't say anything specific about your part of the world, of course, but have you checked around for a DBT group (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)?  DBT, as you probably know, specifically addresses Borderline Personality Disorder, and in such a group you would find primarily Borderliners.  (There may also be a few others, since DBT can be applied to related disorders as well.)

In my case, I was quite surprised to find that a DBT group exists in the semi-rural area to which I recently moved.  It is led by two competent and qualified ladies working at the Mental Health Center.

One more possibility: Look around for a CBT group (Cognitive Behavior Therapy).  The two therapies have quite a bit in common, and you would probably find a good number of Borderliners there as well.

Yes, I'm in the same boat!  I'm currently in therapy myself but have been looking for a group of people who can truly understand what it's like and who I can truly be myself with - some of my friends know I am in therapy but still I dont' let anyone see beyond my happy face.  If you had any luck with the search for a group please let me know.  Hope it is going well.
