i am a thrity one year old who lost her daughter to child services. they say that i show signs that i have borderline personality disorder traits, i dont remember being tested for it at all, but what i was wondering is if derpression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder traits will get in the way of me being a parent

I'm sorry you no longer have your daughter with you.  That must hurt and make you angry.  

There aren't really any tests that can be done for BPD or BPD traits.  It is a diagnosis that should be made by a psychiatrist.  If you haven't seen a psychiatrist, it seems to me child services might be overstepping their limits in telling you that you have this.  

BPD traits is not quite the same as BPD.  What the added 'traits' means is..well, anyone's guess huh? but basically, you are not showing enough signs of the disorder for a full on diagnosis of BPD.  You may have uncontrolled anger outbursts, some self-harm or negative behaviour, problems with rationally arranging your finances...stuff like that.  It is more mild the BPD but that is not to say it isn't serious.  It may escalate, depending on how you handle yourself, and you may end up with a diagnosis with BPD later on.  

Depression, anxiety and BPD are things that you need to address with help from a good doctor and a great therapist.  Once you are working things out and managing youself a little better then you will know if and when you are ready to be a parent, and you will be in a good position to keep and raise your child/ren.  So no, you needn't feel that these things are going to prevent you from ever being a parent.

You must be feeling pretty unhappy with life at the moment, and no wonder.  Look after yourself, and all the best.
