MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear Pkhan

I agree you should not stop the medication without a plan. most endocrinologists stop every 5 years as long as the MRI shows the tumor has disapear, which can sometimes be the case. If the tumor is well visible, then most likely stopping the medication will make the tumor to regrow.
In relation to pregnancy there are two strategies. One is surgery for small pituitary prolactinomas, so you can have pregnancy without taking medication the other strategy is to continue on bromocriptine or dostinex. You have to discuss risks for the baby with your endocrinologist. They are not high risks and there is more data in the literature about bromocriptine.

please let me know if you have any other question,

thanks

CABERGOLINE IS A VY POTENT DRUG! I CANNOT TOLERATE IT! THE NORMAL DOSE IS 0.5 mg twice a week.  ITS VERY VERY DANGEROUS TO GO ON AND OFF OF THIS DRUG! I ALSO SUGGEST THAT YOU GO TO A PITUITARY BRAIN TUMOR SPECIALIST. THEY ARE USUALLY IN LARGE CITIES AT TEACHING HOSPITALS. UNIV OF CALIFORNIA IRVINE HAS A SUPERIOR PITUITARY TUMOR PROGRAM AS WELL AS ANOTHER UNIV OF CALIFORNIA CAMPUS. I ALSO BELIEVE THERE IS A HOSPITAL IN PHILADELPHIA, USA. TYPE IN PITUITARY BRAIN TUMOR SPECIALIST OR CENTER WITH YOUR CITY AND STATE INTO A INTERNET ARCH BOX AND SEE WHAT COMES UP... DO NOT GO ANYWHERE WHERE THEY DONT SEE PEOPLE ALL DAY LONG EVERYDAY ONLY! FOR THIS ONE CONDITION AND THEY PERFORM 100's to 1000's OF THESE SURGERIES. ITS A VERY DELICATE OPERATION (surgery done if over 10mm tumor size or intolerable symptoms). MOST DOCTORS AND EVEN ENDOCRINOLOGISTS DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THESE TUMORS! THEY WILL DENY ALL KINDS OF SYMPTOMS THAT ARE SURELY RELATED AT TIMES. AND IF YOU ARE HAVING EYE SYMPTOMS GO RIGHT AWAY. GOOD LUCK!

Until the doctor comes by I would like to comment as a patient.

You should, IMHO, become more educated about your tumor. You will have to take your medication pretty much for the rest of your life. Going off and on gives your tumor an opportunity to grow. I don't know the size of your tumor but you don't really want that to happen.

If you want to have children, you really need to be under the care of both a neuro-endo at a pituitary center and a high risk OB-GYN as it may take quite a bit to get pregnant and your doctors must keep a close eye on the size of the tumor as well. Other hormones may also be off.
