non-functioning pituitary tumor and surgery

Hello,

Is surgery necessary if a 6mm non-functioning pituitary tumor is with in 1-2mm of the carotid artery?  Is it a riskier surgery and should it be done before it touches the artery?

Thanks for your time,

Dear North 48,

A very small pituitary adenoma that is not functional does not represent any indication for surgery. The relationship with the artery is not taken in consideration to indicate surgery for microadenomas.
