Fluid collection in child head

Hi ,

My nephew 8 months old baby is having fluid collection which is showing in the last MRI on his right side with mild fits.

First time when he admited to hospital they hav drained out the fluid and he was ok fr two months and that was on the left side with  small blood clot and fits.......but now when they taken the MRI ...the clot and fluid collection is on the right side and the hospital is given only medicine for reduceing the fits.

Could you please let me know the Treatment/Diagnosis/Causes for this.

Hi there. The child has hydrocephalus which is the abnormal collection of cerebrospinal fluid in and around the brain in the ventricular system due to obstruction of outflow. I understand he underwent a shunt placement for csf drainage and deflection to the peritoneum. Usually shunt are complicated by blockage and kinking. The child is throwing seizures and the increased csf pressure and volume and pressure on the adjoining areas appears to be the cause. I suggest that you discuss this with the neurosurgeon as to does he deem it important to drain the csf to reduce the effects caused due to this.
