BRAIN (CEREBRAL) ANEURYSM COMMUNITY
mri findings

mri findings

findings:
the ventricles are normal in size and shape. no shift of mid line structures. there is an abnormal increase t2 signal involving the anterolateral  aspect of the left frontal lobe , anterior left temporal lobe, and posterior aspect of the vermis.the major flow of fluids are present there are retention cysts within the right maxillary sinus. the paranasal sinuses are otherwise adequately aerated.

impression:
1_encephalomalacia involving the left frontal and temporal lobes as well as the posterior vermis are likely the result of previous trauma
2_retention cysts within the right maxillary sinus

this was in the sheet that the doctor gave me after the mri what does this mean and how will it affect me

Hi there. Encephalomalacia of left frontal and temporal lobes as well as vermis can have severe effects due to softening of brain involving these particular regions. Frontal lobe is related with thought. Damage to this causes mood changes. Long term memories are also regulated by this lobe and encephalomalacia due to vascular insufficiency or degenerative process of cells of this lobe can result in loss of long term memories, mood changes, wild thinking, too much senseless talking and a greater risk of developing schizophrenia. Likewise temporal lobe encepalomalacia can cause temporal lobe epilepsy.
Retention cysts within the right maxillary sinus are mucocoeles usually benign, expansile lesions which develop after obstruction of the exit of the sinus, the ostium and drainage pattern. The management is usually surgical, complete excision through an open approach called Caldwell –Luc-sinusectomy.
So you need to consult a neurologist and otolaryngologist for her. Warm regards.
