Astrocytoma Grade II

Astrocytoma Grade II

Hi,

I was lately diagnosed with a Low Grade Astrocytoma (initially defined as Low grade glioma) following a partial seizure on the left temporal, the mass is 6x5x3 big and I am 35 years old. I did MRI, fMRI and PET Scan.
Analyses showed that the Speech Production area is surounded by the tumor, while the Speech Understanding area is not touched yet. The conductive area between Production and Understanding was not very clear but believed to be out of the tumor. I have the following questions:

1. What is the best treatment for this kind of tumors?
2. Is surgery for partial resection feasible and safe? and if it is, what are the risks and benefits?
3. What are the consequense of the treatment on my body, mind and sharpness?
4. What is the life expectency for this kind of tumors?
5. What is the quality of life during and after the treatment?
6. How independant will I be in handling my own tasks?

Thank you in advance

You are asking a lot of specific questions that are better suited for a doctor.

We (especially me) are not doctors on the forum, and the only way I could respond is to look up your tumor in a website, and guess, but I know nothing about your general health before the tumor, your habits (drinking, smoking) and any other health conditions that you may have.

Why have you not asked your doctor these questions? Have you sought out a second opinion if you are not happy with your doctor?

There is a doctor forum where you can ask, but I am afraid that such specific question may be difficult not knowing you as a patient.

All surgery carries risks. I have had 12 of them - you rely on the skill of your surgeon and you anesthesiologist. But sometimes the anatomy of the lesion will defeat even skill. You prepare and pick as best you can, you do all you can to prepare ahead of time, and you may need help during treatment.

I urge you to speak to your surgeon(s) about these questions and get these answered to your satisfaction.
