Encephalomalecia after craniotomy

Encephalomalecia after craniotomy

Follow-up MRIs from 1999 partial resection craniotomy show encephalomalecia in the right temporal lobe.  Meningioma was located in the optic chiasm.  Residual tumor treated with gamma-knife radiation in 2000.  I started Celexa in 2001 (no problems before) and Wellbutrin was added in 2006.  Currently 60 mg and 300 mg daily.  I still have major trouble with inhibition control, extreme mood swings, and depression.  Could the encephalomalecia be the cause of my personality/emotional disorders?  I am a 47 year-old married female with an 11 year-old son.  I am a degreed accountant with 26 years experience, but I have had 10 jobs since the surgery (only 2 jobs before surgery).   .

There are specific psych doctors that help people after brain surgery - have you sought one of them out? One of them may be able to help you sort out, even if it is physical, which is most likely, how to cope with the changes. Have you spoken with your doctors to get a referral? Or spoken to them about the issues you are having vis a vis your meds are not keeping it together? There are so many classes of meds out there that either they can try another, or that you need to get someone else to help you.
