MRI report

Could someone give me a layman's explanation of these measurements--
1.8 TR x 2.2 cc x 1.7 ap cm.? We have never see the TR or ap cm. used in the mri
report before for total size of the mass. Also, could someone explain the
following MRI report in plain english for me?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Brain: Again noted is the heterogeneously enhancing mass in the left frontal
lobe which measures approximately 18x 20 x 23 mm. Along the inferior and
anteromedial portions of the mass, there is slight increase in enhancement.
Simislar appearance of T2/FLAIR signal intensity in the left
frontal-temporal-parietal regions. In the enhancing portion of the lesion, there
is suggestion of increased blood volume concerning for the presence of tumor. No
evidence of acute ischemia. No mass effect, hemorrhage, or hydrocephalus.
Grossly normal flow-related signal in the major intracranial arteries and dural
sinuses.
CONCLUSION: There is redemonstration of a heterogeneously enhancing legion in
the left frontal lobe. Compared to the most recent study on 12/10/2010 there is
some slight increased enhancement along the inferior and anteromedial margins of
the mass; however the mass remains significantly smaller compared to the study
dating 9/5/2010. There is no substantial change in the abnormal T@/FLAIR signal
in the left frontal-temporal-parietal regions. On the perfusion imaging, there
is a suggestion of some increased cerebral blood volume in the region of the
enhancing portion of the left frontal lesion concerning for the presence of
tumor.

My husband was diagnosed in 2006 with grade 2 malignant oligodendroglioma. He is
in his fifth recurrence and undergoing Avastin treatment. He has had radiation,
Temodar, Gamma Knife previously. I need a simple explanantion of this report so
that I can explain it to him. He has problems with comprehension and memeory. I
would greatly appreciate any help with this.

I have never heard of those measurements in a report either. I have no idea what TR is - cc is usually a volume and ap may mean approximate - but I am purely guessing. It would make no sense to mix volume and length in one measurement either - so I don't think my guess is valid.

In the following text they use regular mm measurements which is easier to understand. 18mm is around 7/10 of an inch. 20 is .79 and inch and 23mm is just under an inch (an inch is 25mm) about the size of a quarter.

I am only a layman, but what I glean from the report is that there is increased blood flow to the area that is enhanced - the area of the tumor - and  that is concerning them for being a tumor.

Sorry I am not much help. I know your husband has had quite a battle.

From MRI reports of my tumors, I've learned that CC is craniocaudal -- head to tail, the vertical measurement.  AP is anteroposterior -- front to back, the depth measurement of the tumor.  TR is transverse -- the measurement from side to side.  Probably you know this by now, but I thought I'd post just in case.  Best wishes to you and your husband!
