Pituitary Tumor on TV!

So they are featuring a pituitary tumor in a story line on the Hot in Cleveland show - has anyone seen it?

It is nice on one hand that pituitary tumors are getting some attention.

It is sad though that the writers did zero research. They call it a brain tumor. The symptom that uncovered this was a false pregnancy but they did not specify the type of tumor which of course is important for treatment.

When Melanie, the character who has the tumor, spoke about her treatments, she said radiation first, then surgery. No mention of medication (which may be an option for the prolactinoma that she likely has? and the likely first treatment of most prolactinomas).

Then they went on about of all tumors, this is the easiest one! So it was good news.

So, for those of  you with pituitary tumors, do you agree, is this easy?

Yeah that whole story line drove me nuts with the errors.

I know many who have had radiation - none with cancer but almost all with side effects that ranged from headaches up to necrosis.

I am sorry to hear about your husband! It is not easy!

they have got to be kidding. First off the surgery is not a simple surgery and 2nd they do not treat it with radiation any more since about 100% of the people who got the radiation after surgery went on to develop cancer years later. My husband had a pituitary tumor, had surgery, had radiation and then died of cancer from the radiation

She met with her doctor - her *scan* was an x-ray.

It is making me crazy all the errors on the show. Now anyone who sees the show will think anyone with a pituitary tumor simply has something simple that can be resolved quickly, has no symptoms, and needs only an x-ray to see it.
