Third ventricle arachnoid cyst!

I would like an advice or a solution if there is a possibility, please. I have an arachnoid cyst of third ventricle for which I have had two surgeries of fenestration cyst but, which, were not succesfuly. There is 1 year since I have had last surgery and I am still having headaches and they are worse and worse. The fact is that I will try to do an Mri again to see how this is in this moment and the dimensions of it. I mention that my doctor told me about the posibility to implant a shunt(drainage tube) but I am not sure I wish this. I`ve heared that this is worse because is producing too many infections. What is your opinion? What should I do and what riscs I have if I am staing with these headaches?
Thankyou!

Oh and something else you have to consider is that all individual insurance plans will automatically deny coverage if you have a shunt installed.

Hello,

I had an arachnoid cyst of third ventricle diagnosis in 4th grade (1998). I had a shunt placed in my head and have yet to have any problems 14 years later. I am actually having a checkup in early september(annual checkup) and i will updaye on the status. I had a fantastic brain surgeon. He operated on my mother and father (for different problems). If you do decide on the shunt make sure you have a VERY good nuerosurgeon.

This is the expert forum here

He will often read films for no cost so if you have a CD, you can send it to him. I am not a doctor - I cannot read MRI films...

Thanks very much for your response. I had an MRI on May 27 when it was noticed that the cyst has grown again. This means that it already no longer communicate with that ventricle or brain. If you would be able and if you could help me only with an opinion or your knowledge, I could attach here or even on email, some pictures from the last MRI.

Thank you very much. At this moment I don`t know how to post this to experts!

You are asking questions in a patient area... and your questions are perhaps more suited, since you have had two failed surgeries, for an expert area.

If you do a search on shunts, most people are here with issues but you have to realize that anyone on any forum has issues, but there are a lot of people out there that get them that have no issues and so they are not posting anywhere. So you have to talk to your doctor about your personal risks which may or may not be high, the surgeon's skills etc.

I would also personally get your surgical records and find out if you had partial fenestration or full and see if you can get a second opinion.

We have had other people with these cysts - hopefully one of them will pop back in.
