After any surgery (I have had 12, including the pit surgery via the nose), there is swelling. My nose looked slightly red, other than that, I really looked like I did not have surgery.

Complications can vary from the super scary stroke and death (which are with all surgeries and can happen with anesthesia, and are rare) but can happen with this surgery too if your surgeon is not skilled since this area is right near the carotids as well there is risk of blindness as they are near the optic nerve, again, surgical experience tells here.

With most of my friends though, most often the post op complication was a sinus infection. I got one - it smells really bad.

There are two recoveries. Surgical recovery and hormonal. Surgical will take a few weeks and do take it easy. Even though you will not have visible scars, you still had a major surgery.

Then there is the hormonal recovery. Yours is non-producing, but likely after surgery, your pituitary is going to be unhappy. Sometimes after the pituitary has been wacked about a bit (really, it has only been scraped, but wacking sounds better), it gets mad and may stop producing one or more hormones for a while, or in a really bad case (some of this is surgical skill) forever. You may have to take meds for a while, or forever. Be patient with yourself as you may be fatigued and your moods may change. Be ready for testing, and watch your electrolytes carefully. If you crave salt, eat it.  Make sure you are in close touch with doctors during this period until you get stable and it may take up to 2 years or more.
