subarachnoid cyst

I was having dizziness and headaches and was given a brain/IAC scan. They found a prominent subarachnoid cyst in the posterior fossa with the midline. It is approximately 3.2x5.0 cm in the axial plane. Everything else was normal. No midline shift or hemorrhage and no unusual enhancing masses are seen within the internal auditory canals or within the brain. I have known about this cyst for 17 years from another MRI for the same symptoms. I am now experiencing lethargy, balance problems, lethary as well as being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. I am waiting for Medi-Cal to find me a neuro-surgeon who will accept their ins. I would like to know from you if they can use laser surgery to remove this kind of cyst. What is the usual treatment for this type of cyst
The ventricles bilaterally are symmetrical in appearance. There is no dilation. The basilar cisterns are normal. Postcontrast images through the brain do not demonstrate any unusual enhancing leisions. The internal auditory canals bilaterally are normal in appearance. There are no unusual enhancing masses present.
If this cyst is left in my brain, could it cause paralysis or hemorrhage? Thanks, Katrina530

I did some research and it appears that they used to just put in a shunt but now they are opting to remove the membrane entirely via surgery. I found nothing about the use of lasers.
They are not usually treated unless you have symptoms and it sounds like you are having them so you need it.
I hope you find a great surgeon!
