BREAST CANCER: STAGE 3 & 4 COMMUNITY
Do we likely have late stage cancer?

Do we likely have late stage cancer?

My mom felt a lump about a year ago that we didn't think was cancer, and since the routine mammogram wasn't scheduled till this month, we decided to wait. Today the result has come back that she does have breast cancer and the lump is about 2cm. She has already been undergoing chemo for a separate cancer for the past 6 month, would the chemo increase the opportunity for the breast cancer to spread (as normal cells have become weaker to resist the cancer cells)? And because it's been almost a year that the lump has been left alone, would it be more likely that it is now in the late stage considering all the treamtment she had to go through?

Depending on the type of Chemotherapy it may have an effect on the breast cancer as well. I suppose you Mother had some type of biopsy of the breast tumor to determine that it is indeed cancer because that is the ONLY way for a firm diagnosis. I'm not quite sure how you could have determined that the lump was benign in the first place. Surgery would be required and Pathology studies done to determine the stage of breast cancer but it makes me wonder what other type of cancer you are talking about as it could possibly be metastisis of a primary breast cancer ???? Very interesting ...... also how this breast tumor could be ignored since your Mother is receiving treatment that is cancer related.  Chemotherapy attacts cancer cells and there are side effects but I wouldn't say that it makes normal cells less resistant .... not to cancer at any rate. As I stated before the tumor must be removed and lymph node studies done as well before you would know the stage of the breast cancer.     Regards .....
