BREAST CANCER: STAGE 3 & 4 COMMUNITY
Femara vs faslodex

Femara vs faslodex

HI I was on Femara 6 months, with increase in breast nodules and pleural effusion. It didn't work for me, but I'm wondering if another hormonal might. I tried Tamoxifen for 3 months in 2005, without any visible reduction in the nodules, then went on chemotherapy. Is there a chance that one of the hormonals might work for me at some point? Can the cancer be tricked? Otherwise I have reduced life expectancy and increasingly nasty side effects that will reduce QOL.  I have started Xeloda and if it shrinks the nodules, I would like to try another hormonal for a while. I'm frustrated that being 90% er+ and 75% pr+ and her2-, the bc is not responding to the hormonals. At one point in 2005, biopsy results indicated her2+ (mild) and her2-, both. Does that mean I could take Herceptin if the tumours are expressing her2 mildly? Was I enough time on Tamoxifen to give it a chance to work, or was it like Femara. Could it be that I am still producing excessive estrogen at 53? Would a hysterectomy do any good now that cancer has metastasized to the plural area and some spots in bones?

Thanks
