Need Help

My 35 yrs old sister has been diagonosed as Infiltrating duct carcinoma Grade III at Tata Memorial Mumbai, India. Her immunohistochemistry report shows ER/PR - Negative and CerbB2 - Positive(Score 3).

She has been administered first Chemotherapy on 03 March and after her above report, doctor is recommending Herceptin.

Can any one throw some light on advantage of using Herceptin. I am also been told that this medicine is very expensive.

Regards,

Hi.
Trastuzumab (Herceptin) can be an option for breast cancer patients who overexpress CerbB2 or Her2Neu.  It can be used in combination with conventional chemotherapy.  The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) recommends herceptin in combination with chemotherapy in patients with Her2 positive and axillary lymph node positive breast cancer.
It is best to discuss the treatment options with your sister’s oncologist.
Good luck.
