BREAST CANCER: STAGE 3 & 4 COMMUNITY
Secondary breast cancer in the overies

Secondary breast cancer in the overies

I am very concerned about my mother. She was diagnosed with breast cancer (lobular) 4 years ago this march at the age 44. She had 3 tumers and other breakouts in both breasts. She has a bilateral masectamy and no reconstruction. All of her lymph nodes were removed and 13 in one side and 12 in the other were found possitive of cancer. She had chemo and rads. Since then she has been a picture of health and looks fantastic. Now almost 4 years later they took her overies out and found the breast cancer had spread there. They said these cells could have laid dormant and just been triggered off and made active again. They seemed concerned and she has now had a  CT scan of the body and Bone scan.

She will recieve the results shortly but is in a bad way worried for the outcome and possible treatment routes. Has anyone had this or does anyone know what the prognossis is like for a secondary from breast to overies? I seem to feel that this is unusual and cant find much information on it! If you have the gene for breast/ovarian cancer it is more common but mum is NOT possitive for this gene.  Thank you, I would be greatfull if someone could help  x

Hi.
Do you already have the results of CT scan and bone scan?
BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the genes responsible for breast cancer.  Mutations in both genes increase the likelihood of developing both breast and ovarian cancers.
A bilateral breast cancer, and a history of both breast and ovarian cancers are some of the characteristics associated with increased likelihood of BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations.
Your mother's cancer recurred in the ovaries 4 years after treatment.  After surgery, she may need to undergo systemic treatment in order to decrease the possibility of another recurrence.
