Something positive

by debbie422, Oct 24, 2009 11:20AM
8 months ago my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at 62. She had an immediate masectomy and was told she would need the most potent chemo and radiotherapy. It had spread to 8 of her lympth nodes. It completely wrecked our world and I was devasted. I wasn;t sure whether mum would get through the next difficult months, I just didn't think that mentally she was strong enough, there seemed no light at the end of the tunnel. However, from day 1 mum adopted a positive attitude, she had decided she was going to fight. Yes he had down times, she lost her hair, but she went out and bought an amazing wig, and had comments from strangers how nice her hair looked. Yep she felt pretty lousy each chemo cycle, but on her good days she'd dress up, she'd go out, she even went dancing some nights! She was determined to still enjoy life. Mum will finish all her treatment on Wednesday. We don;t know what the future holds but i just wanted to offer a ray of hope to anybody who is about to start this long journey. Just be strong, be positive and you will get through it. Now Mum appreciates everything she has in her life so much more and she really is starting to 'live' - we are so very very proud of her.

Thank you so much for sharing your mother's story with us.

I'm sure it will offer hope and reassurance to many who are feeling frightened and overwhelmed upon being newly diagnosed with breast cancer.

It would be wonderful if you could repeat your post in the Breast Cancer Suppot Community, which is the most common entry point for people fearing or faced with a diagnosis of breast cancer. (You can get there by clicking on "Breast Cancer," under the heading "Related Communities," in the column to the right of these posts.)

Best wishes to you and your mom--you both sound like very special people!
