BREAST CANCER: STAGE 3 & 4 COMMUNITY
Terminal diagnosis

Terminal diagnosis

My friend had breast cancer and had a complete mastectomy 3 years ago.  22 lymph nodes were also removed.  She then underwent chemo and then radiation.  6 months ago a tumor and lesions were found in her brain.  She underwent 3 weeks of full brain radiation and was put on numerous meds plus some sort of stroid to control swelling.  This past week the doctor said the cancer has spread and there is only weeks left.  Although she seems pretty good, and quite alert, what can we expect to deal with.  Besides the fact that we will lose her it is the unknown her family and friends are confused by.  Thank you for your help.

Hi Gigi.
From your post, it seems that your friend has a progressive disease.  Aside from the brain, what other part of the body is involved?
There are other options for your friend.  If she has other organ involvement, she can still undergo chemotherapy.  Best supportive care is also an option for her.  This aims symptom relief and improvement of the quality of life.
I think the best thing to do is to discuss her options with her oncologist.
Good luck.
