BREAST CANCER: STAGE 3 & 4 COMMUNITY

I had a needle localization and breast biopsy (incisional) last Thursday because microcalcifications were shown on my last mammogram.  I have not received results yet.  Does it usually take this long?  I do have implants and if results are positive, should I have implants removed during the surgery if radiation is suggested?

There have been concerns about fibrosis (hardening) of breast tissue surrounding an implant and contracture of the implant's capsule after radiotherapy. But the evidence in scientific literature about radiation being the direct cause of these complications is conflicting, with some experts saying that it is generally safe to irradiate a breast with implants and others cautioning against it.  My suggestion is for you to talk things over with your surgeon and your radiation oncologist before starting any radiation treatment, so you can assess the pros and cons of the procedure.

Hi,
Understand your anxious moments. Do not jump to the conclusion of having malignancy.Let us await your biopsy results.
With respect to breast implants, the management changes with the stage and grade of tumour.
