16 years old- could it be cancer?

i'm 16 years old and just recently my left breast as been hurting at the side slightly over the top and under my arm pit. it feels hard at the start of my breast. does anyone know what it could be?? u think its because i'm still growing? please answer back i'm really worried. :(

Dear Rebekah, There could be many explanations for what you are feeling and the discomfort.  Without an examination and asking questions it is impossible to narrow down what you might be feeling.  Many women experience some breast discomfort especially around the time of your period.  You may be feeling a rib, or a ridge of breast tissue, it is really hard to say.  Seeking the advise of a health care professional that can do an examination and ask questions would be our recommendation.

do u think i should wait atleast a week,to see if the discomfort goes away?

Dear Rebekah, It's difficult to answer these questions without seeing or talking to you, not knowing how severe the discomfort is, details of what you feel etc.  If this has just started, sure you could wait a week and see if the discomfort may resolve on its own.  If it continues or worsens then make sure you get checked out.
