18 year old!

I'm 18 and since I was 16, I noticed wierd things going on with my breast... I had a few pimple around my nipple...and white stuff would come out of them when I would squeeze it... and I also started feeling a few lumps... there's a lump in my right breast above my nipple.. and when I raise my arms up.. and look sideways... it doesn't look like a D but kind of like a B.. like there's something stuck in the upper part... B is actually an exaggeration..but there's no other shape to describe it... and also it hurts a lot when i take my bra off and let my breasts hang.. under my right armpit, there's another lump that hurts as well... should i get some kind of breast exam...i have no insurance or medicaid..

Hi,

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions and therefore an examination by your doctor is important.

These could be due to hormonal changes associated with pubertal growth or your menstrual cycle.

But they could also be due to some infection - consult your doctor and talk to him/her about this.

Underarm lumps can be due to using a deodorant, waxing or shaving or some infection etc. Try some warm compresses and see if it helps with your symptoms.

Keep us posted if you have any more doubts and also let us know about how you are doing.

Regards.

Hi.  I am 34 and have no medical background... but I do have some "sisterly/motherly" things I can share that might help you.  When I was 19 I felt a lump in my left breast.  Wasn't huge, but was definately noticable as everytime I tried to feel it, I could always find it without any doubt.  So, I had my yearly exam scheduled for approx 3 months later and thought I'd just ask my doctor about it then.  Well, I did and she said to watch it for a couple months as it could be hormonal (meaning that it will change in size during different times of my monthly cycle.)  Well,  I never did figure out on a monthly basis why it would get bigger or smaller because it varried each month and went almost a whole year without ever changing in size.  So, long story short - I never worried about it again, but did mention it to my doc each year at my pap exam.  Then.. years later when I was 25 and pregnant with my 1st child... I had told my "new" doctor about the whole story because it had gotten REALLY big as my pregnancy developed.  He couldn't BELIEVE that my old doctor didn't biopsy it or do any further research.  He immediately set me up for a biopsy and they did surgery the next day to remove the lump.  Luckily, it was nothing... but knowing now about cancer that I didn't know then... you should never never never, dear child, go without getting something checked if you find it in the least bit un-normal (not sure if that is a word).  Anyway, please get it checked - it's probably nothing, but if it is... there is soooo many benefits to finding out thing early.

hi I'm 18 and think I might have breast cancer.
This year I started to notis that one of my breasts was getting bigger then the other. At first I was a little werried and told my mom who told me I'm to young to get breast cancer , so I for got about it for 3 months until I notised that my left side was three sizes bigger then my right side!
Also I've found that there is a rather big lump on thside of my boob and also one on the bottom! Futher more sometimes at night I get this throbbing in my left boob that hurts! It's also become dealt uncnfertable to waer a bra because if I waer on that fitss the left side the wires go into my armpits , which realy hurts! And if I wear a bra that fits my right side the left side seems to bulge out or pull the right side over, which is very uncomfortable, my mom keeps saying she's going to get me a mamogram (mammogram) apointment but doesent also to make things even wers both sides of my family have had breast cancer which puts me at a high risk of getting it. What should I do?!

ok firstly breathe. it would be unlikely that u would get cancer so young. secondly they dont do mammograms on under 30's because it wouldnt show anything because in young people the breast tissues too dense, tests would include ultrasound scanning, and biopsy. it can be quite normal at your age for one breast to be larger than the other.
may seem a funny question, but have you been properly measured for a bra fitting? i would recommend doing that at a proper place, if ur bra is too tight it can cause a lot of discomfort.
thirdly re the lump and ur anxiety i would go to the doctors to get urself checked and that way itl reassure you. the lump may just be the time of the month, or may be a non serious problem like a cyst or sumthing but best to get it checked. good luck

You're 18 years old so call you family Dr. and make an appointment for an examination. I don't know that a mammogram would be of much value as breasts in young women are quite dense but an Ultrasound would certainly be a good diagnostic tool. Breast cysts are fairly common among young women and then are sometimes fast growing and can be quite painful. So please call your Dr. and go for an examination. I would doubt breast cancer in a person your age but it is not impossible. Let us know what the Dr. says after your examination.  No matter what the problem or what your age; anything abnormal in your breast should NEVER be ignored.   Take care ....
