2 clusters of Calcifications

2 clusters of Calcifications

I have to have a biopsy soon. I have 2 clusters they are going to biopsy. Does that mean I have cancer between the clusters? They are about 2 inches apart. I am scared sick.

HI,
Because you have clustered calcifications, doesn't mean that you have cancer. When the calcification is grouped it certainly becomes suspicious and that's why a biopsy is recommended as a rule. Many clustered calcification return a benign finding,so please don't worry too much for now...your results could be good.Best wishes and good luck.

The purpose of the biopsy is to determine the nature of the clusters... so, you're really getting ahead of yourself in forming any conclusions or assumptions. But, I know that it's a very unsettling feeling to learn that one has an abnormality that has the possibility of being cancerous. And, I guess that it's only human nature to automatically think of the worse case scenario.
Anyway, just so you know... according to the statistics, calcifications are rarely, if ever, found to be of a cancerous origin. I've been through the biopsy process twice, in a 4 year period, due to calcification growths (right breast). And, thankfully, mine were found to be benign (both times).
I know that it's going to be hard for you to do (because this is all very scary), but I strongly suggest that you try to stay calm and try to maintain a positive outlook. Good luck with the biopsy and I pray that your results come out favorably.

My biggest concern right now is there are 2 clusters within a couple inches of each other. Thoughts on that?

Hi Kathy,
I really don't have an answer to your question about the 2 clusters being near each other. Many women have more than 2 clustered calcification near each other and are found to be benign in nature.I guess both are going to be biopsied for evaluation and I am afraid that you'll have to wait until the results are in( certainly very nerve wrecking!).As iam1butterfly and I mentioned before, many biopsies come back with a benign finding. So lets keep our fingers crossed for a good result.Good luck and God Bless.

I had multiple clusters that were grouped that way, too... all, in nearly the exact same location. And, in closer proximity than the ones that you described. That didn't seem to change the dynamic of my situation or affect the outcome. Take care.
