2 wide excisions for DCIS in situ, No clear margins

My dcis in situ, 10:00 o clock position 4cm maximum, no comedroncrosis, cribiborm macropapillary and pagetoid.
non invasive. I had 2 lumpectomies 7/19 and 8/2,. The Dr did  not get clear margins either time. I don't understand this should I be questioning the pathologist?? she is talking mastectomy, that sounds like over kill to me for something non -invasive..

Any thoughts

With an area that large I'm surprised that Mastectomy wasn't the first choice rather than lumpectomy. I certainly would NOT hesitate to take the recommendation and not waste any more time trying to obtain clean margins. My own area was much smaller that the 4 cm you mention and Mastectomy was mentoned at the very beginning. All surgeons differ in their opinions as to what can be achived but there is a time to stop and get on with things. In comparison 4 cm is VERY large and needs to be excised completely by whatever method necessary. I can't imagine why anyone would question the Pathology report .... it's purely scientific rather than an opinion.   Regards .....

My  third lumptectomy was successful with minimal tissue removed I have clear margins and can move to radiation!! Wahoo!! having faith in my surgeon who recommended the third lumpectomy was the right thing to do, she saved my breast, I have minimal change in size! I trusted my surgeon and she succeeded!!

I feel blessed and I thank God everyday!
