22 Radiation treatments is that enough?

by Scorp, Jan 02, 2003 12:00AM
I have a friend who has inflammatory breast cancer it is stage IV with metastatised to media stinum. Is this a rare place for it to go? Also she has done 4 txmts of adriamycin and taxotere before her masctomy then 11 rounds of taxotere after. She started her radiation txmts 2 a day for around 20 txmts or 10 days. This made her very tired and sick since they were doing 7 fields (including the media stinum area). All of the scans are clear with no indication of cancer anywhere. She has since she stopped all txmts because of the side effects. She also has developed pericardial effusion very little and pleural effusions (not enough to drain or be to concered about I'm told)This all developed during the radiation txmts. They also put her on fermra and she has taken that for about 2 weeks now. My question is they wanted her to do 44 txmt of radaition how much do you thik quiting radiation will effect her outcome of survial and do you think the radiation made the pericardial and pleural effusion? Thank you very MUCH!

Dear scorp:  Research on the use of radiation focuses on the maximum dose as the one that will produce the desired result.  If someone does not complete the treatment, it is unknown whether it will help a little bit or not at all.  This is a question that there is no answer for.
