2nd mammo needed for additional views SCARED

I have been called back to have another mammogram or maybe ultrasound on my left breast. It shows calcifications. I had a complete hysterectomy 18 months ago, I am 52 years old. 6 years ago I had an ultrasound on the same breast that showed cysts. I had a digital mammo for the first time and hoping it may just be the diffference in digital and film mammograms.  My left breast has hurt off and on for YEARS.  I am on a low dose (1.5) of estrogen. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I cant get an appt. for a week, scared to death.

Calcifications occur normally in breast tissue. When they are observed in groups or clustered in certain patterns they become cause for concern. They may be an indication of an underlying problem. Being called back for additional views isn't all that unusual ... it's done to obtain a better view of one specific area of the breast. If as you say, calcifications were seen then there needs to be further evaluation but I wouldn't get too upset over the recall.
