4 months vs 6 months

4 months vs 6 months

I have just started my chemo treatment (CEF) and I'am not handling it very well.  I was told that the chemo is a preventive measure due to the fact that my lymph nodes were not involved and the tumor removed was 3cm, I also had my left breast removed.  My question is instead of 6 months of chemo why can't I do just 4?  The oral chemo durg I am taking is making me very ill and I don't think I will make it through 6 months.  They told me that my chances of cancer coming back after chemo goes from 50% to 30%, does this change if I only have 4 months?

Dear rocco:  Statistics and success rates of chemotherapy are based on research protocols during which dosing and schedules are established.  One cannot make adaptations to protocols and apply the same statistics.  If you are having trouble tolerating the chemotherapy, you might be best served by discussing this with your health care providers.  While chemotherapy is not considered a "fun" experience, most people are able to tolerate adjuvant chemotherapy.  There are many supportive medications which may make this a better experience for you.

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER AND HAS HAD THE MASTECTOMY AND MY 1ST DOSAGE OF CHEMO.  I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE 6 DOSES OF CHEMO EVERY 21 DAYS APART WHICH I BEGAN THE 1ST ON DEC 5 AND IF ALL GOES WELL THE LAST SHOULD BE MARCH 20.  I KEEP PRAYING THAT ALL WILL GO WELL THIS IS THE 4 MONTS BUT IT IS 6 TREATMENTS.  CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AND I WILL PRAY THAT ALL GOES WELL FOR YOU.
