6 mm lump

by Monkeee, Jun 25, 2009 01:17PM
I just got off the phone with my Dr's office and they informed me my Mammogram has shown a 6mm lump so they are sending me for an ultra sound. They are saying if it was something of concern they would be fast tracking me, but they aren't they just want to be sure its nothing serious. Needless to say...I'm freaked and terrified...to me...a 6 mm lump is something serious!!! Help!!

Dear Monkee, Different types of tests give different pieces of information and need to be interpreted in context. Ultrasounds are often most helpful in distinguishing between a fluid-filled cyst and a more solid area of tissue. It is difficult to comment specifically without seeing the film and being able to put the findings into context. 6mm is a very small area.  Hopefully the ultrasound will clarify this finding for you and put your mind at ease.
