7 mm radiopacity

I have recently had a mammogram that found a 7 mm radopacity.."likely a cyst".  I have a recall mammogram and ultrasound on April 23.  What should I be expecting? What questions should I have prepared?

Hi Annie,
This is good news!
If you have been scheduled to have a follow up in 6 months, that means that your BIRADS score is 3,meaning that there are no suspicious lesions, masses,or calcifications to report, but follow-up is recommended.
I am very happy for you...Congratulations!  :)

The report came back saying a cyst (2) but receptionist couldn't find a BI-RADS score on the report.  I have scheduled a consult with my MD for May 15 to get my questions answered and then schedule a 6 month ultrasound follow up.
Good to know that areas are benign.

We'll be waiting with you...praying and hoping for benign results.
By the way, when you get your results, please let us know what is your BI-RADS score assigned on the report.
BI-RADS is a quality control system, used by radiologists after interpreting mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs.
It's important for you to know the score, so you'll have an idea on how suspicious the abnormality is.
Again wishing you the best of luck! :)

Hi,
A spot compression mammogram ( the one you'll be having) is a type of mammogram in which only a small area of the breast is compressed. The purpose of this second mammogram is to achieve better imaging of a particular region of the breast, especially because dense breast can make Mammography interpretation more difficult. The fact that you are being called back, is very common.Sometimes is just the skin that has folded over on itself and looks like a shadow.A spot compression will often smooth out the tissue and the "density" will disappear.Often,a second mammogram will confirm that all is okay.An Ultrasound might be needed if the abnormality does not disappear. The Ultrasound test will be able to differentiate if the density is a cyst or a solid lump.
I don't think that there are any questions to be asked, until you find out about the results which I hope will be benign findings.
Please come back to us to let us know how things are proceeding and will do our best to help you with any question you have.
Best wishes and good luck!
