8 yr daughter with right breast lump

My 8 year old daughter indicated she had a sore lump under her right nipple.  Her right breast only appears to have a slight bulge.  There is a strong family history of breast cancer including myself and two of my sisters.  I am so scared right now I can barely type.  I cannot find anything on some one this young with breast cancer.  We are seeing her pedi Monday morning but could use some advice or direction.

I had something that sounds like the same thing when I was about 10. My mother rushed me straight to the doctors. She actually thought I was mucking around and had a marble under my top until I pulled my top up to reveal a bare chest!
When we got to the doctors he felt around and told us it was only growing tissue. This was the first sign of my body changing so young, but I did know grow obvious breasts until about 2 years later.
So whilst your daughter is only 8, this may be the case of first development signs.
Having said that its always best to confirm things with a professional.
Now I'm on here at 24 yrs of age after finding a lump and waiting to have a breast biopsy next Tuesday!

hi,
Possibility of breast cancer occuring at this stage is impossible. Her breast tissues are not developed to the extent to show the possibility (if any) of the future disease, So you should just relax. Even if you have a family history of breast cancer it is unlikely for a child to show the symptoms at this age.
             All the best.

Hi there.

It is highly unlikely that this is breast cancer since the breast tissues at her age is still very much underdeveloped.  This is the reason why breast cancer is almost never seen in children below the age (or even at the age) of puberty.  The most common causes of breast lump in her age is still benign in nature, like if this is sore and painful, this can be an infection or an abscess.  Both can be treated effectively by her doctor/surgeon.

I suggest that you take it easy, as this is unlikely to be cancer.

Regards and God bless.
