A Typical Lymph Node

A Typical Lymph Node

I just had a lumpectomy and 2 of my lymph nodes removed.  One was considered negative, the other A Typical and both were sent off to the lab for further study.  Exactly what does A Typical mean and what are the chances the cancer has spread to this lymph node?

Dear brookenicole, Atypical would mean there are cells that do not look entirely normal, or that there are more cells than would be expected (atypical hyperplasia).  That's about all that can be said based on the above information.  If this finding was based on a verbal report from the surgeon, further clarification may come with the official pathology reading.
